Friday
What: Windy; Two periods of showers.
Impacts: Minor
A weather system passing to our west and north will bring rain showers today, mainly in two batches, along with blustery winds.
The first, more substantial batch of rain will be during the morning and midday hours. Scattered showers and a couple heavier periods of rain will sweep west to east through the region. The further north and the further west, the more substantial the rain will probably be. Rain amounts will mostly remain under a quarter inch. These should be exiting the region by the early afternoon at the latest.
The second, lesser batch will be during the early evening, when a broken line of brief showers will quickly pass through.
South winds will remain blustery through the day with occasional gusts over 40 mph. The wind will turn to the west this evening with the second batch of rain, then to the northwest thereafter. Wind speeds will drop at that time.
Temperatures will range from the mid 50s in the Rochester and Genesee Valley areas to the mid 40s in some areas east of Cayuga Lake. Most areas will see highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.
Saturday
What: Rain arrives late
Impacts: Minor
Most of Saturday will be cloudy but quiet. Winds will be light with temperatures starting in the low 30s and rising to the upper 30s.
During the mid to late afternoon, rain will move in from the south. A few pockets of mixed precipitation may be possible in some higher elevations.
The rain will be persistent into the evening hours but should depart the region by midnight. Localized amounts over a quarter of an inch are possible.
Temperatures may briefly reach 40 degrees during the evening hours before dropping to the low 30s overnight.

Sunday
What: Flurries, perhaps a few squalls; More wind
Impacts: Minor-Slight
Colder winds will set up on Sunday, leading to some snow showers off Lake Erie across the region. A cold front during the afternoon will bring a period of more widespread snow and possibly some squally weather. Most places should see accumulations of an inch or less, but locally up to 2 inches will be possible. Any squalls could make for brief periods of trickier travel.
Winds will be gusty throughout Sunday, coming from the southwest much of the day and then turning to the northwest with the cold front in the afternoon. Top wind gusts will be 35-45 mph, but a localized gust to 50 mph is not out of the question.
Temperatures will hover in the low and mid 30s most of the day, then drop to around 30 degrees with the cold front. Overnight lows will reach the mid 20s with snow showers ending during the evening hours.
Monday-Tuesday
What: Quiet conditions
Impacts: None
High pressure will keep the weather tranquil on Monday and Tuesday. Both days should have some sun mixing with periods of clouds, but no precipitation. Winds will generally be southerly and not too strong. Afternoon highs will be well into the 30s.
Late Next Week & Beyond
A weather system will pass through the area on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in a shift in our weather pattern.
Wednesday should still be mild with rain showers, but colder air will move in on Thursday with some lingering snow showers.
Temperatures late next week will struggle to get far into the 20s. After a brief warm up to near 30 for next weekend, even colder air looks possible for the following week with a potential for highs in the 10s.
