Low pressure moving along a frontal boundary will bring widespread rain throughout Saturday, but Sunday will turn out dry with some breaks of sun. Temperatures will return to the 60s early next week with some mid-week showers.

Friday

What: Sun and clouds

A weak frontal boundary is over the region already. Batches of clouds, some thin, some thicker, will pass through from time to time today. This will lead to varying amounts of sunshine. Conditions will generally stay dry, though some stray showers and even thunderstorms are clipping the far southwestern corner of the region early this morning. Light north winds will blow, keeping most areas in the 50s for high temperatures. Clouds will gradually increase tonight with some predawn showers possible.

Saturday

What: Rain

Most of the Finger Lakes will see rain throughout the day on Saturday as a low pressure system tracks southeast along the frontal boundary. However, the front will favor the southwestern half of the region, so areas in and around Syracuse may escape the day with just some occasional showers. Meanwhile, rainfall amounts over and inch are likely across Livingston, Steuben, and Chemung counties with amounts tapering off with northeastward extent.

Winds will be steady but not strong at around 10 mph from the southeast. Temperatures will not be able to rise much, sticking in the mid and upper 40s to near 50 degrees for afternoon highs. The evening will have some lingering showers but the rain should end by the overnight with lows in the low 40s.

Sunday

What: Clouds, some sun

Rain is not expected on Sunday with dry air building into the region. How much sun is able to break through the clouds remains uncertain and will probably be unevenly distributed throughout the region. The morning is more likely to be cloudy, and the afternoon should have increasing sunshine. By Sunday night, skies will turn mostly clear. Winds will be light, turning from the east to the northeast. Afternoon highs will reach the low and mid 50s. Most areas will end up near or below 40 degrees Sunday night, and some cold pockets may see some frost.

Monday

What: Sunny

A quiet and mild day will kick off the final days of April. Expect ample sunshine and highs in the mid 60s and light east winds. Monday night will not be as cold as Sunday night, with overnight lows staying in the 40s.

Tuesday

What: increasing clouds; late showers

The next weather maker will approach the area on Tuesday with gradually increasing clouds. A few rain showers may arrive from the west late in the day, but it is too far out to tell exactly when. Temperatures will be similar to Monday, though winds will increase and become blustery from the southeast.

Wednesday

What: Showers

The next wet day after Saturday appears to be Wednesday with on and off rain showers. Rainfall amounts will likely be determined by whether any thunderstorms are present, but it is too early to tell. High temperatures will probably be a bit lower than the previous two days.

Thursday

What: Sun and clouds

The final day of April looks quiet behind Wednesday’s system. Temperatures will likely be in the 50s with a fair amount of sunshine.

Early May

May looks like it will get off to a cooler start through next weekend and into the early part of the following week. Highs in the 50s are likely and there may be several nights in the 30s. The chance for at least patchy frost will need to be monitored. It is too early to tell what days may be most at risk for frost, or on the flip side, which may end up cloudy with rain.
