This graphic represents an average over the entire Finger Lakes region. Localized variations should be expected.

Rain will be most likely Saturday during the mid to late afternoon when scattered showers and a few thunderstorms pop up. A few stray showers will also be possible both Saturday and Sunday morning. A few areas may get through the weekend with little to no rain, though. Temperatures will take a small dip Sunday but 80s will return early next week with higher humidity arriving by the middle of the week.

Friday

What: Sun and clouds

Friday will have a mix of sun and clouds, but no rain. Afternoon highs in the mid and locally upper 80s. A few urban areas will likely hit 90 degrees. Winds will be from the west and southwest at up to 10 mph. Clouds will increase further during the night with south-southwest winds up to 10 mph, keeping temperatures in the mid and upper 60s.

Saturday

What: Scattered showers and storms

A few scattered showers will be possible Saturday morning, but many areas will be dry.

Rain chances will increase in the mid to late afternoon with scattered showers and some thunderstorms. Many areas will see at least a little rain, but some areas may get missed. Probably less than half of the area will see an actual thunderstorm. Of the storms that do develop, one or two may contain strong winds.

Other media outlets may show you that the Storm Prediction Center has the southern half of our region in a Level 2 – Slight risk for severe thunderstorms. It is my expectation that this threat level will not materialize over New York state and that subsequent outlooks will push that area south into Pennsylvania, where the severe threat will be greater. A Level 1 – Marginal threat level, currently over the northern half of the region, seems appropriate for the whole region in my eyes.

Temperatures will likely top out around 80 degrees. Humidity will come up, so it will feel a bit muggy. West winds will be blustery with a few gusts around 30 mph, separate from any thunderstorms. Most of the precipitation should quickly end after sunset with overnight lows in the low 60s.

Sunday

What: Maybe a few early showers

A few lingering showers may be possible on Sunday during the morning hours. Many areas will likely remain dry all day. Sunshine will increase through the afternoon. Temperatures will be a touch cooler with highs in the mid 70s with steady, but lighter-than-Saturday north winds. The humidity from Saturday will be gone. Skies will be clear Sunday night with lows well into the 50s.

Monday

What: Sunny with a couple clouds

High pressure will be in firm control of the weather early next week. Monday will be mostly sunny with a few small fair weather clouds popping up during the daytime heating hours. Temperatures should return to the low 80s during the afternoon with overnight temperatures in the upper 50s.

Tuesday

What: Sunny

Sunshine is expected to be abundant on Tuesday with few if any clouds. Temperatures will continue to rise with highs in the mid 80s. The humidity will remain low with dewpoints in the 50s. Tuesday night will see some thin clouds moving in with overnight lows in the low 60s

Wednesday & Thursday

What: A chance for showers, storms

Scattered showers and storms will be possible on Wednesday and/or Thursday. The forecast is too uncertain this far out to be sure which day will have a higher chance for rain, and whether there will be any related severe threat. There will be plenty of heat and humidity to work with as high push into the upper half of the 80s and dewpoints become uncomfortably muggy as they rise toward 70.

Next Weekend & Beyond

The weather pattern is expected to become more unsettled, partly as a result of increased humidity and consistently warm temperatures. In other words, summer looks like it is arriving right on schedule.
