Some Rain Monday

Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop across portions of the Finger Lakes on Monday, but the day will not be a total washout.

An area of steady rain will stay to the southeast as low pressure tracks through the Mid-Atlantic states. Parts of the southeastern Finger Lakes — namely areas between Steuben and Cortland County — may see a few showers along the northern edge of this rain from time to time.

Further north, skies will retain at least partial sunshine through the morning and into the early afternoon. Temperatures in these areas will shoot well into the 70s.

By the mid afternoon, some showers and thunderstorms should begin to pop-up across the northern Finger Lakes. There will likely be a small area extending through the middle of the Finger Lakes where there is little precipitation between the thunderstorms to the north and showers to the south. Areas such as Dansville, Penn Yan, Auburn, and even possibly Syracuse may spend much of the afternoon dry.

The thunderstorms that do develop should generally be weak. At most, a little small hail and some gusty, non-severe winds will be possible. Flooding is not expected to be a problem today.

Showers will overspread the entire Finger Lakes this evening before tapering off after midnight.

Drying Out Midweek

Tuesday will likely start with areas of fog and some thick, low cloud cover. A stray shower or two, enhanced by the cool air aloft moving over the warm waters of Lake Ontario, will be possible through the morning.

Dry air will begin to work in during the afternoon hours, eroding away the clouds and resulting in increasing amounts of sunshine.

Temperatures will be on the cool side, with highs in the low 70s.

After a little more fog in the favored areas early Wednesday, some rather nice weather should settle in for a couple of days.

Look for sunny skies and near normal temperatures Wednesday and Thursday around or just above 80 degrees.
