Comfortable Summer Day

An incoming area of high pressure will bring some pleasant weather to the Finger Lakes.

North and northwest winds out ahead of this high will be a bit blustery today, gusting between 20-25 mph at times.

The north winds will supply some refreshingly cool, less humid air. High temperatures today will generally be in the mid 70s with a few higher elevations only reaching the low 70s.

A few patches of clouds will be possible from time to time. Otherwise, it will be a bright, sun-filled day.

Temperatures will back off into the low 50s overnight, A few of the typically colder valley locations across the Southern Tier should end up in the 40s.

Thursday will turn a bit warmer if 70s aren’t quite your ideal. Expect a high in the low 80s with light, variable winds and scarcely a cloud to be seen.

Friday will turn warmer yet as winds become southerly. Look for highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.

Uncertain Weekend, Unsettled Next Week

Our high pressure system will start to get squeezed out this weekend with lows from the west and south, but it will not go without a fight.

On Saturday, the high pressure system should retain control of our weather. Rain is not expected on Saturday, but the uncertainties lie in how much sun will shine and how warm it will be as a result.

A sunnier day would send temperatures into at least the mid 80s, while overcast skies would keep temperatures in the 70s. I tend to lean more towards 80s with at least partial or filtered sunshine.

A small area of low pressure will ride north along the East Coast Saturday night into Sunday. A relatively small area of very heavy rain is likely somewhere, but there is not yet any real consistency on the models to try to pinpoint where that may be.

It is possible that Sunday ends up completely dry as well, or it could be a washout. Temperatures will, of course, vary with the different scenarios.

The chances for rain become more likely early next week as low pressure meanders through the region. The day-to-day details still need working out, but with a little luck, we will get some more needed drought relief.
