A Single Full Day of Sunshine
High pressure will bring sunshine to the Finger Lakes at last, but only for a single full day.
This high pressure system is centered over the Carolinas, but extends northward through the Great Lakes and into Canada.
Some overnight lingering clouds have kept temperatures mostly in the 30s to start today. Gentle west winds will bring in a little warm air today, but more significant warming is occurring on the backside of the high over the Midwest.Still, with the sunshine, temperatures should be pleasant today despite still being several degrees below normal.
Look for afternoon highs to reach about 50 degrees this afternoon.
Clear skies should persist into the evening, but some clouds and perhaps a shower will work in after midnight. A mix of sun and clouds early Wednesday will transition to mostly cloudy skies by the afternoon.
Temperatures will drop back into the mid and upper 30s tonight. South winds will bring the warming into the region for Wednesday with highs approaching 60 degrees.
The Rain Returns
A band of rain will enter Western New York around midday on Wednesday and will spread east through the afternoon.
By 3 or 4 pm, light rain showers will be common across the Finger Lakes, but they will start to break up as we head into the evening.
Rain showers will linger longest over the eastern Finger Lakes.
With the clouds during the evening, temperatures will remain mild. Low and mid 50s should be commonplace for trick-or-treating.
A new area of rain will start to spread into the Finger Lakes from the southwest on Thursday as a frontal boundary stalls out to our southeast.
Thursday will be a cool day with on and off showers. Highs will be around 45 degrees, with slightly warmer temperatures near Lake Ontario and slightly cooler temperatures in the Southern Tier.
Low pressure will ride along the front Thursday night into Friday. A period of heavier rain is possible Thursday night, followed by showers and perhaps some thunderstorms Friday.
Widespread rain amounts of one to two inches are likely with locally higher amounts. Minor flooding along rivers and in poor drainage areas will be a concern.
Temperatures Friday will spike as the low pressure passes just to our west. At this time, temperatures look to be in the low and mid 60s with gusty south winds.
This system should pull out for the weekend, with quiet weather. Temperatures Saturday should be in the 40s with some 50s on Sunday.
