Warm, Windy, then Wet
Tuesday will be a warm and breezy day before some late day rain moves into the Finger Lakes.
Low pressure is tracking across the Great Lakes this morning and will take a path north of Lake Ontario tonight. This is a favored storm track for warm and windy weather as south winds ahead of the low increase.
Winds will gradually increase through the morning and early afternoon hours from west to east. Gusts over 30 mph will begin to show up in earnest after 4 pm and should persist throughout the night. This evening, the wind direction will change from the south to a more west-southwesterly direction.
Sunny skies through the early afternoon will team up with the south wind to give temperatures a big boost. After starting near or slightly above 40 degrees this morning, afternoon temperatures should peak in the mid 70s.
A quick moving area of showers is possible between roughly 3-5 PM on the northern edge of a line of thunderstorms over Pennsylvania. A rumble of thunder may be possible, especially over the Southern Tier.
A second, larger area of rain and embedded thunder will follow about two hours behind. These showers and storms should mostly clear the region by 9 pm. No severe weather or flooding is expected.
Up and Down Temperatures
By Wednesday morning, temperatures across the Finger Lakes will be in the mid and upper 30s. Cloudy skies may spit a bit of drizzle or even a flurry.
Sunshine will increase from west to east during the afternoon, though the hills south of Syracuse may continue to see a little drizzle well into the afternoon.
High temperatures on Wednesday will range from the low 50s across the Southern Tier to only the low 40s in the hills south of Syracuse. Most areas should see mid and upper 40s.
Temperatures will partly depend on how quickly the sun works out. In my experience, it seems it usually takes longer than expected for the clouds to burn off in this type of set up.
Winds Thursday will turn back to the south, though they will be light. With a good deal of sunshine as well, temperatures should rebound into the mid 60s.
Rain will arrive overnight Thursday and linger into Friday. With the clouds and rain, temperatures Friday will be in the 50s.
Saturday will be similar to Wednesday with clouds and cool temperatures struggling to get out of the 40s. Sunday could be cool as well but remains uncertain.
Generally speaking, temperatures are expected to be on the cooler side for the end of April and early May.
