Quiet weather settles into the Finger Lakes

High Pressure Takes Over

A sprawling area of high pressure is building into the Great Lakes today and will keep our weather quiet for the days to come.

Most of the region is starting out sunny, though a few clouds still linger over the southeastern Finger Lakes. The snow from yesterday and last night are long gone as dry air takes over.

The lingering clouds will quickly dissipate this morning, leaving clear skies across the entire region through the afternoon. However, with the high centered to our west-southwest, a cold northwesterly flow will persist.

The northwest winds will again be on the blustery side today, with speeds around 15 mph and gusts of 30-35 mph.

Those chilly winds will ensure temperatures stay cool with highs today mostly in the low and mid 30s.

Temperatures will drop back into the low and mid 20s this evening, but winds will start to turn to the west, then southwest as the high moves into the Mid-Atlantic. The wind shift will halt the falling temperatures, with most areas staying steady after midnight.

Saturday will start off sunny, but a band of clouds will move in for the midday and afternoon hours. Some sunshine may be able to penetrate the cloud cover, but it will probably seem more cloudy than not.

Temperatures will get a boost as warmer air filters into the region. Look for afternoon highs in the mid 40s for higher elevations and upper 40s elsewhere. Saturday night’s temperatures will hold in the low and mid 30s.

A couple of stray showers or flurries may be possible Saturday night as a weak disturbance swings through. Most areas will probably stay dry.

Back to Spring

By dawn Easter Sunday, most of the clouds will be east of the region and skies will start out with a fair bit of sunshine. The sun will continue for most of the day, with just a few afternoon fair weather clouds bubbling up.

Winds will be from the northwest behind the weak disturbance, but there will be no cold air to move into the region. In fact, Sunday should be even warmer, with highs reaching the mid and perhaps upper 50s.

Sunny weather will persist into Monday as well. Morning lows will be in the low and mid 30s once again, and afternoon highs will settle in the low and mid 50s.

Another small disturbance will be in the area on Tuesday with some afternoon rain showers possible. Before any rain, temperatures should reach the upper 50s and low 60s.

Wednesday and Thursday both look sunny and dry with highs reaching the low 60s.

The weather towards next weekend looks less certain, but temperatures will probably take a small step back with highs in the 50s and perhaps a day or two in the 40s.
