Quiet Stretch
High pressure will build into the region from the west behind the cold front responsible for the thunderstorms late yesterday.
This front remains draped across the region this morning as it slowly drifts to the southeast. Plenty of cloud cover remains in place and a few stray showers cannot be ruled out through the morning hours.
The clouds will remain thick into the midday hours before a gradual clearing from northwest to southeast through the afternoon. Some areas may not see much sun until the late afternoon.
Once the clouds do clear, skies will be blue and air quality will greatly improve with the front sweeping away the wildfire smoke.
Northwest winds will increase through the day, peaking in the afternoon. Speeds will be just over 10 mph with a few gusts as high as 30 mph.
These winds will bring cooler, less humid air into the region. High temperatures today will be in the low and mid 70s while dewpoints will fall through the 60s and into the 50s.
This will set up a mostly clear and more comfortable night with lows in the 50s. Patchy fog in the favored river valleys will be possible into Thursday morning.
Thin clouds will drift through the area tomorrow, but it will be much sunnier than today. However, some wildfire smoke will move back into the region.
Northwest winds will continue, but at lighter speeds compared to today. Temperatures will only be a degree or two warmer than today with most areas in the mid 70s.
Weekend Weather
Friday, too, will have a mix of sun and clouds, though a few stray showers may also pop up. Most areas will probably stay dry throughout the day, though.
Temperatures will gain a few more degrees, with highs mostly into the upper 70s. Dewpoints will remain depressed though, sticking to the 50s.
Saturday will bring one final pleasant day before active weather returns. It will also be the warmest day between now and the weekend with highs in the low 80s.
Saturday night, an area of showers and thunderstorms will move into the region. This seems to be most likely after midnight, so the main concerns will be lightning and locally heavy rain. Much of the activity should move out during Sunday morning, but additional showers and storms will develop for the afternoon.
Behind the system responsible for the stormy weather Sunday, a few more showers will be possible on Monday. The timing, coverage, and intensity of these showers are still highly uncertain.
Temperatures will start to warm next week with mid 80s on Tuesday and possibly upper 80s on Wednesday.
The best chance for rain next week will come later in the week as a cold front moves through the region.
