Late Week Weather Forecast
The remains of a weak, stalled out front are still over the Finger Lakes this morning while low pressure spins off the coast of New Jersey.
High levels of atmospheric moisture in the wake of the low and yesterday’s rain have the area off to a cloudy, and in areas foggy, start today. Temperatures are mild, though, with most areas around ten degrees above the 30-year average low for May 16th.
Clouds will stick around today, but some sunshine will also make an appearance. The later in the day it gets, the more in the way of sunshine we should see.
There will be a few isolated, brief pop-up showers this afternoon. Most of these should only be good for a few minutes of light rain, and most areas will not even see that.
Afternoon highs will mostly be between 70-75 degrees this afternoon. Winds will be near or just over 5 mph, coming in from the north-northeast.
After some clear skies early this evening, clouds will increase overnight. Winds will also swing around to the southeast. Overnight lows will again be in the upper half of the 50s as a result.
Friday will generally be cloudy. Late in the afternoon, showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will try to move from Western New York into the Finger Lakes. Much of the activity will weaken as it enters our region, but sporadic showers are possible towards sunset and into the evening and overnight.
Temperatures on Friday will be in the mid 70s thanks to a continued southeasterly flow.
Weekend and Next Week’s Weather
Clouds and showers will linger into Saturday morning but will gradually dissipate by Saturday afternoon. At least a little sunshine will be possible late Saturday.
South winds during the first part of the day will become light and variable as the front stalls overhead and dissipates.
The clouds and showers Friday night will keep temperatures in the upper 50s for Saturday morning. Highs Saturday afternoon will reach the low 70s.
Sunday looks dry with a fair bit of sunshine mixing with some fair weather clouds. Winds will remain light and variable with no nearby weather systems to take control of the atmosphere.
Temperatures Sunday morning will be a bit cooler than Saturday, but still in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs will be a bit warmer, with mid 70s.
Dry, sunny weather will stretch into Monday and probably Tuesday, too. In fact, Tuesday looks as though it may be the sunniest of the upcoming days.
Temperatures will continue to rise as well, with upper 70s Monday and highs around 80 degrees on Tuesday.
A cold front should move through sometime Wednesday. If the frontal passage occurs during the afternoon, there will be a chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures will retreat behind the front for late next week and into the weekend, but highs will remain at least in the 60s, if not near 70 degrees.
