Late Week Weather
A cold front will move through the region during the midday hours with a round of showers and a few thunderstorms.
This front is attached to a large area of low pressure moving slowly eastward across Canada. This low will be responsible for continued unsettled weather through the weekend.
Most of this morning will be on the quiet side, though it will remain mostly cloudy and muggy. Temperatures will rise into the 70s.
By the late morning and early afternoon, the front will be approaching. Showers and a few storms will develop along the front. Most areas should see some rain during this time, though parts of the Southern Tier may only see a brief shower.
The best chance for thunderstorms will be along the Thruway corridor and east of Cayuga Lake. Storms in the eastern Finger Lakes may have some gusty winds.
The rain should be east of the area by the mid-afternoon as the front clears the area. Behind the front, sunshine will increase during the latter half of the afternoon. Dewpoints will also fall, going from the upper 60s to upper 50s by evening.
Temperatures will have two peaks: one before the rain, and the other late in the afternoon during the sunnier portion of the day. Temperatures during both peaks will reach the mid and upper 70s.
Mostly clear skies are expected tonight, though a few stray clouds will be possible here and there. Overnight lows will be a bit more comfortable, reaching the mid and upper 50s.
Fair weather clouds will quickly bubble up Friday morning. By midday, showers will once again start to develop. The rain on Friday will be contained to individual small cells that come and go quickly.
A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. Some areas may see multiple showers, while others dodge the rain. Most places should see at least a little rain at some point Friday afternoon. The showers will dissipate late in the day with a mostly dry evening and overnight.
Temperatures will top out near 70 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will fall into the low and mid 50s.

Unsettled Weekend, Warming Next Week
Low pressure will meander around eastern Canada through the weekend and slowly depart on Monday.
This will keep rain in the forecast, produce some gusty winds, and hold temperatures in check.
However, the day-to-day details will depend on the evolution and movement of small bundles of atmospheric energy. As I’ve explained the last two days, these features are nearly impossible for the weather models to resolve more than a day or so in advance.
As a result, the rain expectations for the weekend continue to bounce around and shift.
It will rain this weekend, but there should be plenty of dry time, too. In fact, the most recent model trends have been for less daytime rain and generally light amounts.
Both Saturday and Sunday will have some blustery winds. Wind speeds will be 10-15 mph and gusts may eclipse 30 mph at times. The wind direction will also depend on those embedded disturbances, but generally are expected to be westerly on Saturday and more northwesterly on Sunday.
Temperatures will continue to hover around 70 degrees both days, with Saturday Night’s temperatures in the mid 50s and Sunday Night a few degrees cooler.
Monday will also have a chance for showers and perhaps a reinforcing shot of cooler air. Highs may only reach the mid 60s, while Monday night drops to the upper 40s and low 50s.
The weather should clear out for Tuesday and Wednesday next week with temperatures making their way back toward the seasonal averages in the mid 70s.
An overall drier, warmer pattern is expected to set up thereafter. Warm may turn to hot by next weekend and into the following week, with highs reaching 90 degrees not a farfetched expectation.
