Wet Weekend Weather

High pressure is overhead to start the day Friday, but will quickly move off to the east, opening the area up for wet weather.

For today, sunshine is expected throughout the day. Some thin clouds will start to build in later this afternoon, with skies turning overcast this evening.

Temperatures will rebound from a chilly start to reach a high in the mid and upper 70s. A few higher elevations will stick to the low 70s.

Winds will pick up from the south and southeast, but speeds will remain under 10 mph.

Evening temperatures will slowly back into the 60s and low 70s with an overnight low in the low and mid 60s.

Rain showers out ahead of a low pressure system tracking through the Upper Great Lakes and into eastern Canada will move into the Finger Lakes during the predawn hours. This initial batch of rain should depart by the mid-morning, but even in its immediate wake, there will still be scattered showers about.

A couple more bouts of steadier rainfall will be possible through the morning and afternoon hours, only tapering to on and off showers for a time between. All in all, it will be a rainy day with no real substantial breaks of dry weather.

Late in the afternoon, a few thunderstorms may become embedded in the rain. Some additional scattered thunderstorms will also be possible during the evening hours.

The chances for severe weather will be limited thanks to the persistent clouds and rain during the day, but the potential will need to be monitored thanks to strong winds aloft.

Temperatures on Saturday are tricky thanks to the rain and may actually be warmest in the hours near and just after sunset. The south wind will be blustery, with speeds up to 15 mph and gusts around 30 mph, driving highs in the mid 70s.

Rain amounts through Saturday evening will be variable, but some places could pick up over an inch. It will be very humid, especially late, with dewpoints rising to near 70, leading to localized downpours.

It will remain muggy until a cold front moves through early Sunday afternoon. Depending on the timing of the front, there may be a small window for showers and a few stronger thunderstorms.

Dewpoints will crash during Sunday afternoon and should reach the 50s by sunset. Temperatures will top out in the mid and upper 70s.

Weather Next Week

A northwesterly flow will set up Sunday afternoon and persist into Monday. The low responsible for the active weather will be departing, and high pressure will build in from the west.

There will be a chance for a few morning showers on Monday. Sunshine should increase later in the day.

Temperatures will get knocked back a bit, with morning lows in the mid 50s and afternoon highs in the low 70s. Monday night will be cool with most areas in the low 50s, but some pockets dipping into the 40s.

High pressure will pass overhead early Tuesday and to the east Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will get a bump up to around 80 degrees with a mix of sun and thin clouds.

Wednesday looks warm and increasingly muggy with highs at least in the mid 80s. Urban areas may push into the upper 80s.

There will be a chance for some late day or evening thunderstorms.

The weather on Thursday is rather uncertain at this point, but there should be at least some showers around. Temperatures will likely remain warm.

Next weekend again looks unsettled, though the details are anything but clear at this point.

Temperatures generally look warm next weekend and into the week beyond, with highs mostly favored to be in the 80s.
