Cloudy Early Week Weather
A tepid jet stream pattern combined with atmospheric moisture left over from Hurricane Helene will keep our weather consistent for a couple more days.
This will mean more cloudy weather, though it will remain mostly quiet, too.
Areas of fog this morning will gradually lift, but there will be plenty of other clouds to keep skies gray.
A few spits of rain cannot be ruled out at any point today. These should be few and far between, though, and individual showers should be brief. Most areas will probably stay dry throughout the day.
Winds will be light from the east at 5 mph or less.
Afternoon highs will be on the mild side again, with most places in the low and mid 70s. A few higher elevations, particularly in the western Southern Tier, may not get above 70 degrees.
It will stay cloudy tonight with some additional areas of fog possible. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 50s.
Tuesday will be about the same as today, with plenty of clouds and just a small chance for a spit of rain here or there.
There is a small chance for a few breaks of sun late in the day, however.
Winds will be a bit more noticeable, coming in from the southeast at 5-10 mph.
From the northern tips of the Finger Lakes to Lake Ontario, mid 70s are likely. To the south, temperatures will mainly be in the low 70s with higher elevations in the upper 60s.
A Quick Front Mixes Things Up
Any breaks in the clouds late Tuesday will be brief as a cold front approaches from the northwest.
This front will send some showers into the area during the predawn hours Wednesday. These may linger through the morning and even into the midday hours for some eastern areas.
Rain fall amounts will be minimal, though, and a few areas may not end up with more than a few drips and drops.
Behind this front, winds will turn to the northwest for Wednesday afternoon, allowing some cooler, drier air in. Much of the region will see some sun break out in the afternoon, though eastern areas may hold on to the clouds as the front stalls out and dissipates.
Wednesday will be cool with highs in the low and mid 60s. A few hilltops may end up just shy of 60 degrees.
A light southerly flow will develop on Thursday accompanied by a good deal of sunshine. Temperatures will jump back into the low and mid 70s as a result.
Friday will be similar to Thursday, just a degree or two warmer.
Another front will slide through Friday night or early Saturday. A few showers may be possible, but as a whole, this front looks dry.
North winds through the weekend will knock temperatures back into the 60s. Sunday morning may be rather chilly with lows well down into the 40s.
The weather early next week is highly uncertain, with a potentially complex pattern setting up. The spread of possibilities on the models is too wide to draw much of a conclusion at this point.
