Mid Week Weather
Moisture left behind by the remains of Hurricane Helene continue to meander through the region thanks to a lack of steering winds aloft.
The bulk of this moisture is to our south today, resulting in some breaks in the persistent cloud cover.
A stray spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out, though almost all areas will get through the day dry.
Afternoon highs will reach the low and mid 70s with gentle southeast winds.
A cold front will approach tonight, leading to an uptick in cloud cover and some showers arriving before sunrise. Overnight lows will stick to the mid and upper 50s with the clouds.
Rain showers will be light, but commonplace, throughout Wednesday morning. The showers should mostly dissipate by midday, but clouds will linger well into the afternoon. A few western areas may see a little sun before the day is done.
Between the clouds, the showers, and winds turning to the northwest behind the cold front, Wednesday will end up a cool day.
Higher elevations will likely stick to the 50s, while many areas only get a couple of degrees above 60. The warmest areas will manage to get to around 65 degrees.
The front will eventually sweep away all the moisture from Helene and high pressure will build in with dry air. Depending on how quickly skies clear out Wednesday night, some areas may dip well into the 40s by Thursday morning.
Late Week and Weekend Weather
Quiet weather will build in as high pressure passes through on Thursday and for most of Friday.
Thursday will be sunny with just some thin clouds mixing with or filtering the sun at times.
Temperatures will be quick to rebound with highs at least in the low 70s for most areas.
Friday will have a mix of sun and clouds. There will be a small chance for a stray shower late and especially during the evening and overnight hours. Many areas will see very little to no rain, though.
Friday’s highs will be in the mid 70s with overnight lows sticking to the 50s.
The showers Friday night will be associated with a dry cold front. Temperatures on Saturday will be knocked back into the mid 60s. Outside of a lingering morning shower, the day should be rather sunny.
Forecast confidence decreases Sunday and into early next week as a complex weather pattern sets up over the northeastern United States. There should be some rain in our area at least one day, if not multiple days.
There is a large spread on the models beyond that unsettled weather, but the overall trend looks to be for some cooler weather, if not outright chilly.
However, most days later next week show a 30-40 degree spread in possible temperatures, so there is only so much that can be read from such a range this far out.
