Weekend Weather Forecast

High pressure will be in control of our weather for most of the weekend.

Despite this, cloud cover will vary from place to place and time to time.

Figuring out the clouds is trickiest today, with the remains of a decaying low pressure system to our west and dry air to the east.

Most of the region is starting the day off cloudy, but the dry air should erode the clouds from east to west. How far west the clearing makes it is the big question.

Areas from about Canandaigua Lake westward have much lower chances for sunshine than areas to the east. Meanwhile, areas east of Cayuga Lake will have the lowest chances for overcast skies once the morning cloudiness burns off.

That leaves a big chunk of the Finger Lakes region in the middle where the edge of the cloudiness will likely wobble back and forth throughout the day.

No rain is expected one way or the other, though. Northwest winds will increase, reaching speeds around 10 mph this afternoon.

Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low 50s with the usual colder and warmer pockets.

Clouds may push eastward overnight, only to dissipate completely early Saturday morning. Overnight lows will generally stick to the mid and upper 30s.

Saturday will turn out mostly sunny with highs in the low and mid 50s. It will be windier, with northwest winds as high as 15 mph. A few gusts may approach 30 mph.

Lake Ontario will contribute some atmospheric moisture, keeping relative humidity values generally above 40 percent. This is still low enough to raise concern of brushfires, especially given the blustery winds.

The wind will drop Saturday night and should be nearly calm by Sunday morning. A light south wind will then develop.

Clouds will build in early Sunday and stick around the entire day. No rain is expected until the overnight hours, when some scattered showers move in.

Highs on Sunday will be in the mid 50s.

Weather Next Week

Next week’s weather will start off with a few more scattered showers Monday morning as a weak low pressure moves across southern Canada.

Most areas will not even see a tenth of an inch of rain between Sunday night and early Monday.

There may be some afternoon sun on Monday as the showers depart.

Winds will again be blustery from the northwest, but highs will remain in the mid 50s.

Tuesday looks only a touch cooler with morning lows in the mid 30s and afternoon highs in the low 50s. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds, but no rain is expected.

Dry weather will continue into Wednesday as well with some sort of mixture of sun and clouds. Temperatures will likely bounce back upward, starting in the upper 30s and reaching the mid 50s.

A series of low pressure systems will develop, become strong, and decay next week as they cross the nation. This unsettled weather should arrive in our area late in the week.

How everything unfolds at this point is highly uncertain, but there is at least a chance for some more meaningful precipitation Wednesday night, Thursday, or maybe Friday. A brief period of strong winds will also be possible.

Cooler air will build in behind this system with highs consistently sticking to the 40s next weekend and into the Thanksgiving week.

2025 Calendar Update

Unfortunately, I am not able to offer a calendar for 2025. There were several factors that went into this decision, many of them beyond my control. Technological issues and high costs were among the chief reasons.

I know this is disappointing for you, as it is for me. I had high hopes for this year and had already put a lot of work into another great calendar. But, that will give me a head start on hopefully bringing the calendar back for 2026.

The calendar sales have paid for many of the expenses directly related to running FLX Weather over the last two years. This includes basics like web hosting and subscriptions to various aspects of the website, but also more specialized subscriptions like access to model data.

Without the calendar sales, 2025 remains unfunded. This will make it even more difficult for me to do my work producing the weather forecasts you rely on, especially during active and hazardous weather.

If you are able to make a one-time donation, or even better a monthly contribution, please consider doing so to secure the funding necessary for another year. Thank you for your consideration, generosity, and support.
