Mid-Week Weather
Areas of lake effect snow are impacting the eastern Finger Lakes this morning.
Some of this snow is being enhanced by Cayuga, Owasco, and Skaneateles lakes, leading to locally heavier snowfall south-southeast of said lakes.
Some areas may see another couple inches of fluffy snow this morning before winds begin to shift and the lake effect dissipates.
Throughout the afternoon, some occasional flurries and brief squalls will continue to be possible as winds turn more southerly, bringing snow bands from Lake Huron and Lake Erie through the region. The western and northern portions of the region will be particularly susceptible to some brief snow bands.
Additional accumulations this afternoon should be under an inch for most areas.
Temperatures will claw their way up into the low and mid 20s, but no higher. Morning winds will be from the northwest with an occasional gust to 30 mph. Wind speeds will drop this afternoon as the direction turns more southerly.
Any lingering snow showers this evening should move out of the area quickly. There may even be some breaks in the clouds tonight. It will be chilly with lows in the low and mid 10s despite southwest winds.
A broad area of light snow will overspread the region Thursday morning and persist into the afternoon. The snow will gradually dissipate late Thursday, leaving a general inch or two in its wake. Highs will once again be in the mid 20s.
Warmer, then Colder
This snow will be along a warm front, which will give us a brief warm up as we head into the weekend.
After a few lingering snow showers Friday morning, the rest of the day will be quiet with highs working up into the low 30s.
Another weather system will swing in on Saturday with widespread precipitation once again. Most of this will fall as snow, but some rain may mix in during the afternoon when temperatures climb into the mid and even upper 30s.
A cold front will move through late in the day, sending temperatures all the way into the upper 10s by Sunday morning. Temperatures will only gain a few degrees with a high in the low 20s.
There will be a few snow showers around Sunday morning, but all in all, it will be a quiet day.
Some limited lake effect snow may develop Monday as a coastal system passes by to our southeast. This system will only reinforce the cold air as high pressure builds in.
Highs on Monday will only be in the low 10s. Tuesday will struggle to even reach 10 degrees. Morning temperatures will start in the single digits on Monday, near zero on Tuesday, and potentially well below zero by Wednesday.
On the literal bright side, there may be some sun here and there with little snow expected.
Temperatures will moderate late in the week and may even make a run at the freezing mark by next Sunday.
