Subzero Overnight Temperatures
The core of our current cold air mass will move through the region today into tomorrow.
High pressure to our south has most of the region clear or mostly sunny to start this morning. As expected, most of the southern half of the region is below zero, while most of the northern half is just above zero.
Winds are light from the southwest, keeping the wind chill close to the actual temperature.
Skies will remain a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. There will be just a small chance for a few stray flurries late this afternoon and this evening. Only a localized coating of accumulation is expected, with most areas seeing nothing,
Temperatures will only make it into the low 10s for most areas today. Some hilltops may not even make it to 10 degrees, while a few urban areas may manage to reach 15 degrees.
Light southwest winds will persist through the day and into the nighttime hours. Patches of early clouds this evening will give way to mostly clear skies.
Tonight should be colder than last night as a whole. Many parts of the southern half of the region will approach or drop below -10 degrees. The coldest pockets may find themselves below -15 degrees even.
To the north, most areas will dip below zero with topography and proximity to water playing a large influence on just how cold it gets.
Wednesday will have sunny skies through the morning and into the early afternoon before widespread cloudiness builds in late. No precipitation is expected.
Daytime temperatures will be similar to today, with mostly low 10s but pockets of both colder and warmer temperatures.
Southwest winds will turn to the south late and increase during the evening. While the clouds and increasing winds will keep most areas above zero Wednesday night, the wind chill will be below zero.
Temperatures Moderate
A few snow showers will be possible on Thursday, though widespread accumulating snow seems unlikely.
Southerly winds will continue, with wind speeds dropping by the afternoon. Temperatures will warm to the mid 20s for afternoon highs.
Clouds, wind, and snow showers should keep most areas in the 10s Thursday night. Again, accumulations should be minimal to non-existent.
Winds will turn to the northwest on Friday, keeping a few snow showers around early in the day and making afternoon highs a couple of degrees cooler. Most areas should still get into the 20s.
Temperatures will make another jump this weekend with highs in the upper 20s Saturday and low 30s Sunday.
Saturday looks mostly cloudy with a few breaks of sun but no precipitation. A few morning snow showers may be possible on Sunday.
Quiet weather will persist into next week, with sun and clouds and highs near 30 on Monday. Tuesday will be similar, but probably with more clouds than Monday.
The middle and end of next week look a bit more unsettled, though no major weather systems are expected.
Temperatures will likely dip a bit for the second half of the week but should bounce back as we head into February.
