Temperature Changes
A cold front snuck through the region late yesterday afternoon, knocking temperatures back with scarcely any clouds, let alone precipitation.
High pressure then moved in overnight and is centered due north of the region over Canada.
Cool air has built in with most areas starting the day in the 20s. The sun is still shining, though some thin clouds will gradually build in this morning.
Temperatures today will be about twenty to twenty-five degrees cooler than yesterday. Highs north of the Thruway will only manage the upper 30s, with low and mid 40s to the south.
Evening temperatures will drop back into the mid 30s, but a southerly wind on the backside of the high will hold temperatures steady through the night.
As warmer air aloft starts to move in, there may be a small window for a band of snow this evening.
Models are mixed on the location and significance of this band. Whatever develops will likely do so along a west to east axis, then lift north and northeastward. As such, the southern and eastern areas will have the best shot at a burst of snow this evening, but that is not a guarantee.
This is expected to unfold near and shortly after sunset and some areas could get a quick half inch to inch of snow. Locally, travel may become briefly messy and difficult, though at any given time, the majority of the region will be just fine.
Any snow should be mostly done before midnight, with skies beginning to clear overnight.
This will set up a milder day on Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds. Most areas should see highs returning to the low and mid 50s. Winds will be steady, but not too strong, with speeds around 10 mph.
The warming trend will continue into Friday with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. Expect lots of sunshine and a few thin clouds. South winds will again be near 10 mph.

Weekend Weather, Next Week Preview
A very warm weekend is ahead, along with some more active weather, especially on Sunday.
Saturday will start with a mix of sun and clouds. How long the sunshine lasts is a bit uncertain. There may be a few showers late in the day, but most areas will probably end up dry. It is unlikely, but still possible, that a couple of these late showers could have some thunder.
Temperatures on Saturday will start out well into the 40s with afternoon highs ranging through the 60s. Many areas will be near, if not above 65 degrees.
Wind speeds will pick up, still coming from the south and reaching 15-20 mph. Gusts will be around 35 mph.
The wind will remain blustery through Saturday night, holding temperatures in the 50s. Sunday morning, the wind will increase further, becoming quite strong.
There is a high chance for gusts near or over 50 mph Sunday morning and into the afternoon. These will still be from the south.
These winds will push afternoon highs into the mid and upper 60s. A few places hitting 70 degrees isn’t out of the question.
Scattered showers will be possible throughout the day, but especially during the afternoon. As a cold front marches through later in the afternoon, scattered thunderstorms are likely. Any storms may be able to tap into the already strong winds and produce some isolated severe thunderstorms.
The wind will turn to the southwest and become light late Sunday and into the evening. Overnight, the wind will remain light as it turns to the northwest.
Temperatures will fall to the upper 30s by Monday morning. Skies will remain cloudy Monday until some late sun. Afternoon highs will be in the low 40s with steady, but not strong winds.
Another warm up is likely for the middle of next week with highs returning to the 50s on Tuesday. More days at or above 60 degrees are possible until some cooler air works in again late in the week.
