Early Week Rain
While temperatures will remain mild across the Finger Lakes this week, the precipitation pattern has flipped, with daily rain chances taking the place of prolonged dryness.
The culprit for this week’s unsettled weather will be a stalled out frontal boundary. Rain will come and go as waves of low pressure ride along the front.
Most areas should end up with over an inch of rain total throughout the week, and some areas could see closer to two inches.
Rain today is expected to remain rather scattered until the late afternoon and evening hours. While a stray shower or storm will be possible before that time, many areas will stay dry.
Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage late in the day, starting in the western half of the region and gradually pushing eastward. Even during this time, not all areas will end up with rain.
The most widespread rain looks to be after midnight and into early Tuesday morning as low pressure moves overhead. A few more rumbles of thunder will be possible overnight.
After this batch of rain moves out early Tuesday, the rest of Tuesday should be cloudy with just scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder. The biggest question that remains is how quickly in the morning the more widespread activity moves out.
Temperatures will be warm today, with most areas between 75-80 degrees. It may feel a touch muggy at times, especially late, with dewpoints in the low and mid 60s.
The overnight will remain warm, with most areas near or above 60 degrees. Tuesday, however, will be a touch cooler behind the low with highs in the 70-75 degree range.
Winds will be from the south at speeds around 10 mph today. Lighter south winds are expected tonight into Tuesday morning, followed by light and variable winds Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday will be one of the days with a lower chance for rain this week. Just a few pop up showers are expected, mainly in the midday and afternoon hours. Anything that falls should be light and brief.
Highs Wednesday will be in the mid 70s with light winds under 5 mph turning from the north to the east.

Additional Batches of Rain
Another low pressure system will come at the area Wednesday night into Thursday. This should bring another round of widespread precipitation.
The details of this rain are, of course, less clear at this point. At this time, rain looks possible on and off throughout the day Thursday, with a few thunderstorms as well.
Like Tuesday, temperatures on Thursday will be held back a bit by clouds and precipitation. Highs will likely be in that 70-75 degree range again.
South and southeast winds will turn blustery on Thursday with speeds of 10-20 mph depending on location and topography. A few gusts over 30 mph are likely as well.
With all the wind in the atmosphere, any thunderstorms that develop will need to be at least casually monitored for locally strong wind gusts. At this time, a more significant severe threat does not look too likely.
Friday will then turn out like Wednesday with just a few stray spits of rain here and there. Most areas will be dry most of the time.
Friday morning is the first morning this week when most areas should drop below 60 degrees. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 70s, though.
Confidence is low by the weekend, but another system may swing through the area on Saturday with some showers and thunderstorms. By Sunday, sunny weather is expected to return.
Temperatures will remain warm through the weekend with highs in the mid 70s.
Mainly dry weather is expected to return next week with temperatures near or just slightly cooler than this week.
