Today will be the area’s last taste of winter for a little while as warmer air pushing into the region produces areas of wintry mix turning over to rain. Temperatures will have a first peak on Saturday with 60s possible, but some of next week may also get at least that warm before colder, wintry weather becomes possible again.
Tuesday
What: Wintry mix turning to rain
When: Later morning into the afternoon
Impacts: A few slick untreated surfaces
Precipitation will move in from southwest to northeast this morning, overspreading the area by midday. Temperatures are cold enough for snow this morning, but will be warming. Freezing rain will become possible, especially over the higher elevations of the Southern Tier. Many lower elevations and the northwestern quadrant of the region will go right to rain after a little initial snow. Snow will hang on a little longer over the northeastern quadrant before turning to rain.
A coating of snow and a light glaze of ice is all that is expected, and that will mainly be in localized areas. Travel conditions should remain in pretty good shape today except in some rural, higher elevation areas. Rain showers will persist through the afternoon, then depart this evening.

Wednesday
What: Early clouds giving way to sun
Wednesday morning will start overcast, but the clouds will gradually erode away from north to south. Most areas should see ample sunshine during the afternoon. Winds will be nearly calm as high pressure passes overhead. Afternoon highs will range through the 40s with some valleys of the Southern Tier pushing toward 50 degrees.
Thursday
What: Some rain showers.
Scattered rain showers will be possible at any time on Thursday. That being said, most of the time, it will be dry for any given location. Rain will increase late in the afternoon and during the evening. Winds will be light from the east and southeast with high temperatures similar to Wednesday, ranging through the 40s.
Friday
What: Continued rain showers
Some locally heavy rain will be possible Thursday night, but should mostly depart the region by Friday morning. Still, stray showers will linger around the area throughout the day. Winds will be southerly, but not too strong. High temperatures will jump to the low 50s.
Friday night, southerly winds will increase and temperatures will hold steady or even rise slightly.
Saturday
What: Warm. Some late rain.
Temperatures will soar on Saturday to levels not yet seen in 2026, or since last October. There is a good chance that temperatures will be solidly into the 60s and a few locations hitting 70 degrees isn’t out of the question. Gusty south and southwest winds will help drive the temperature up. Scattered showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder will be possible, especially late in the day and in the evening as a cold front comes through.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds.
Sunday will not be as warm as Saturday, but still quite mild with highs in the mid 50s. A stray shower cannot be ruled out early, but most of the day should have sun and clouds. Winds will be from the west and southwest and may still be a bit breezy during the morning before weakening in the afternoon.
Next Week
Monday looks sunny and pleasant with highs sticking to the 50s. Another surge of warm air is possible for the middle of the week, but there are still a couple of outlier models that keep temperatures a bit more moderate. On the flip side, it could get even warmer than Saturday if everything aligns right.
Later in the week, a classic March cold front will bring winter back in a snap, starting with a nearly instant drop in temperature. By the weekend, temperatures will be locked back into the 30s with chances for snow.
