Clouds will gradually increase today ahead of an area of low pressure. Rain will arrive overnight, with on and off showers and a few thunderstorms on Wednesday. The low will linger nearby with a few more showers possible Thursday and even Friday. Warm air will move in by the weekend.
Tuesday
What: Increasing clouds. Evening rain.
After a cool, sunny, and frosty start, clouds will gradually increase throughout the day. Most areas will see at least partial sunshine through the mid-afternoon, with clouds becoming thicker toward the end of the day. A few showers will arrive this evening, with more widespread but still light rain during the overnight. Winds will be light and variable most of the day, then light from the southeast tonight.
Afternoon highs will mainly be between 55-60 degrees. A few of the broad valleys of the Southern Tier may reach the low 60s. Tuesday night will see temperatures in the mid and upper 40s.
Wednesday
What: Scattered showers.
Rain showers will continue from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. There should then be a lull in the precipitation from the late morning into the mid afternoon, during which time some sun should shine. Temperatures will climb into the low 60s during this time. South winds will be blustery with a few gusts over 30 mph from time to time.
During the late afternoon, showers and thunderstorms should develop. Most areas will see additional rain. Any thunderstorms should remain weak with just some occasional rumbles of thunder and no severe weather expected.
Thursday
What: Scattered showers.
Low pressure will slowly move to the east by Thursday, turning our winds to the northwest. Cooler air will move in with highs mainly in the mid 50s. Scattered showers will remain possible, with a higher chance for rain the further east you are. It will not be an all day rain, and whatever does fall should remain light.
Friday
What:Â Maybe a few showers.
The low will continue to drift eastward on Friday, further reducing but not yet removing the chances for rain showers. Again, the further east, the higher the chances of seeing some of these stray showers. Many areas will stay mostly or completely dry. Winds will still be from the northwest, but light, and afternoon highs should reach the low 60s.
Saturday
What: A couple showers and storms late. Warm.
Warmer air will push into the region on Saturday on blustery southwest winds. Afternoon highs have a good chance of reaching or exceeding 70 degrees. A subtle frontal boundary or wind shift may touch off a few showers and storms late in the day. Most areas will probably stay dry, though.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds.
By Sunday, the warm air will be well established over the area. Morning lows will be well into the 50s and afternoon highs near or above 70 degrees. A stray shower cannot be ruled out, but at this time, it generally looks like a dry day.
Next Week
Monday looks even warmer with a shot at 80 degrees. Like Sunday, a stray shower cannot be ruled out, but most areas should be dry. A front will pass through Tuesday with showers and perhaps some thunderstorms, depending on the timing of the frontal passage. This front looks weak, though, with highs potentially staying near 70 degrees not only on Tuesday, but for most if not all of next week. Most of the precipitation next week looks centered on the frontal passage around Tuesday.
