Holiday Weather Forecast
Periods of active weather will continue through the Memorial Day Weekend, but there will also be plenty of tranquil time as well.
Friday will get the weekend off to a cool and cloudy start despite quite a bit of early sunshine.
Moisture wrapping around the low pressure system that passed by yesterday will bring clouds back into the area from the north. The far eastern portions of the Finger Lakes are already locked into the clouds and will likely remain rather cloudy.
A blustery northwest wind will keep cool air in place. After morning lows mostly in the low 50s, look for afternoon highs near or just above 60 degrees in the higher elevations with mid or upper 60s in lower elevations.
Temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees tonight with pockets of upper 40s. Winds will swing around to the south on Saturday, allowing warm air and moisture to move back north.
Saturday will end up similar to Thursday. Strong wind fields aloft would portend a severe thunderstorm threat. However, rounds of showers and plenty of cloud cover throughout the day will significantly limit the atmosphere’s ability to develop thunderstorms.
Expect on and off periods of rain showers with a few rumbles of thunder. The time period to watch will be the hours around and just after sunset when a few isolated stronger cells will be possible, especially towards Western New York.
Temperatures most of Saturday will be stuck in the 60s. Some western areas could push into the 70s later in the afternoon.
Sunday will start cloudy but some sun will try to work out during the midday and afternoon hours. Widespread precipitation is not expected, but a few isolated showers and weak thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon. These seem most likely over the southern half of the region.
The morning hours Sunday will start warm and a bit muggy with lows around 60 degrees. Temperatures will rise into the 70s.
The pick day of the holiday weekend will be Memorial Day itself on Monday. No rain is expected, skies should be sunny, winds will be light, and temperatures will be comfortable. Look for afternoon highs around 70 degrees.
Active weather will pick up again thereafter with chances for rain and thunder early Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
