Low Pressure
The front that has been the primary factor in our weather all week is situated along the NY-PA State Line this morning.
Further southwest, an organized low pressure system is moving along the front through the Ohio Valley.
Scattered rain showers already are skirting through the southern half of the region near the front this morning, but a much larger area of precipitation is associated with the low.
This rain will move into the area during the latter half of the morning and especially into the afternoon. Widespread steady rain will fall with embedded heavier downpours.
These downpours are especially likely near the front across the southern half of the region. Rainfall amounts could locally approach two inches in the Southern Tier as a result. Flooding is not expected.
With the rain, temperatures will move little today. Areas in the north, which are starting today in the 40s, will reach the low and mid 50s. To the south, where it is in the upper 50s this morning, highs will reach the low 60s.
There may be a lull in the precipitation for a time this evening, but more rain is expected through the overnight.
Winds will be under 5 mph as the low moves along the front. As the low passes east tonight, winds will turn to the northwest and increase to 5-10 mph.
Temperatures will slowly drop as the winds turn and should end up in the mid 40s by Friday morning. The temperature should only rise to the upper 40s and low 50s on Friday during the early afternoon before another push of cold air later in the day.
The biggest concern for Friday’s weather will be the wind. Northwest winds will continue to increase, peaking during the afternoon hours with gusts of 45-55 mph. Wind advisories will likely be issued later today.
Scattered rain showers will continue, though the precipitation will not be as widespread or steady as today. By Friday evening, it will be cold enough for some of the rain to turn to snow. A coating may accumulate in some higher elevations.
Weekend Weather & Beyond
By Saturday morning, temperatures will mostly be in the mid 30s. Winds will start to wind down, and any lingering clouds early in the day will move out.
Most of the day will turn out sunny. Winds will turn to the southwest during the afternoon, and temperatures should bounce back into the mid and upper 50s.
A warm front will develop over the region on Sunday, leading to more clouds than sun and a few scattered rain showers. Temperatures should make it well into the 60s.
Low pressure will approach from the west on Monday. The timing of any rain and whether any sun makes it out will have a large impact on temperatures. Highs should settle somewhere in the 60s.
An active weather pattern will persist through next week, with two more weather systems possible on Wednesday and Friday. These will keep temperatures down, with highs from Wednesday through next weekend mostly in the 40s and 50s.

Very good photo of the run-off from the plowed field. Could I get a copy of the photo?
