Cool with spotty showers
Chilly air is being reinforced across the Finger Lakes this morning behind yesterday’s rainmaker.
Northwest winds will steadily blow today at 5-10 mph, ensuring temperatures remain about ten degrees below average. Look for highs today to be in the low and mid 50s.
Much of the region is starting off cloudy today with a little sunshine working out in the far western regions. Clouds will gradually break up for some limited sunshine this morning from west to east.
The sunshine will simply trigger more clouds though with a rather thick blanket of small puffy cumulus clouds developing for the afternoon. A stray shower or two is not out of the question, particularly in the I-90 corridor.
Cloud will dissipate after sunset as the daytime heating cycle winds down. Mostly clear skies overnight will send temperatures into the low and mid 30s overnight. Patchy frost is likely, especially in the typically colder areas.
A cold front will drop south toward the region tomorrow, triggering a few more scattered showers. These will develop during the early afternoon over the northern half of the region and slowly make their way south.
High temperatures on Tuesday will be a couple degrees colder than today, but most areas should still make it to at least 50 degrees.
Precipitation will become more widespread Tuesday evening, but will not be as heavy or long lasting as yesterday’s rain. Rain showers will likely mix with some snow over higher elevations as nighttime temperatures back into the mid and upper 30s.
Wednesday will have the most sun of these three days, though afternoon cumulus puffs will develop in the daytime heating.
A few upper 50s may appear along I-90, but most of the region will be in the low and mid 50s once again.
Gradual Warming Trend
Thursday will be similar to Wednesday with a good deal of sunshine and some afternoon fair-weather clouds.
Temperatures will get a small boost and most areas should get into the 60-65 degree range. Thursday night should not be as chilly either, with temperatures bottoming out around 40.
A few showers will move through on Friday with temperatures holding around 60 degrees. The chances for rain will decrease, but not totally disappear on Saturday, while high temperatures increase slightly to the low and mid 60s.
After Saturday, temperatures should start to make daily gains as we transition into a much warmer pattern.
Sunday will see highs in the mid and upper 60s. Monday will have the first 70s starting to appear. By Tuesday, 70s should become widespread with the warm weather sticking around indefinitely.
Rain chances will also remain low during this time, with just the occasional afternoon pop-up shower possible. Including our rain chances early this week, there are no more steady, widespread rain events in the foreseeable future.
