Rainy Day
A moderate jet stream aloft and a low pressure system and cold front at the surface will keep the weather wet today.
A large area of rain and thunder, leftovers from thunderstorms last night, is working through southern Ontario, Canada this morning. This activity will move into the Finger Lakes by the late morning and persist into the afternoon.
As this area of rain moves through, expect a couple hours of mostly steady rainfall during the midday and early afternoon hours. A few rumbles of thunder may be possible, but most areas will probably not hear thunder.
Even as the main area of rain moves east and breaks up somewhat, additional scattered showers are likely through the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening hours.
A few brief bouts of heavier rain will be possible, but flooding is not expected with rain amounts generally under a half inch.
With the clouds and rain, temperatures will only make it to the mid 70s today.
Locally gusty winds will be possible this afternoon as the low pressure moves into the region. Areas near and west of I-390 have the best shot at gusting over 30 mph. These stronger winds will be from the northwest, but much of the day will have southerly winds.
Clouds and showers through the night will hold temperatures in the low 60s. Showers will continue into early Friday morning before gradually diminishing. Sunshine should work its way out for Friday afternoon, but a steady northwesterly breeze will hold temperatures down. Highs will stick to the upper or even mid 60s with gusts of 25-30 mph.
Weekend Weather and Beyond
Saturday will be a quiet day with gentle winds and a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side, especially in the morning. Daily lows will drop into the upper 40s and low 50s. Afternoon highs will manage to break into the low 70s.
Saturday night will not be as chilly thanks to southerly winds developing and clouds increasing. Morning lows will be in the mid and upper 50s.
Some rain showers may arrive by dawn Sunday as the next system rolls into the region. After these morning showers, a better chance for rain and thunderstorms will develop for the afternoon. Low 70s are expected for highs thanks to the rain and storms.
A few showers will linger into Monday morning before skies gradually brighten. Highs will return to the mid 70s.
A small area of rain may enter into the region on Tuesday. Given the small nature of this system and the distance in the future, the rain chances for Tuesday are highly uncertain and many areas may stay dry.
Wednesday has an even lower chance for a couple showers, so for now I opted to keep rain out of the 7-day forecast. High uncertainty in the forecast remains in place for the remainder of next week as well.
Temperatures will very slowly rise next week and should be approaching 80 degrees by the weekend
