Slow-Moving Weather System
A frontal boundary is stalled out across the Finger Lakes with waves of precipitation moving along the front.
Early this morning, a batch of widespread rain was moving through the Southern Tier. This area of rain should weaken over the next several hours. Showers will become more scattered by the late morning.
An uptick in shower activity is then expected for the afternoon. These showers will be more cellular but will be slow moving. A few heavier downpours are also likely.
This will all add up to on and off periods of rain and highly variable rain amounts. Some areas will probably see well under a half-inch of rain today. Others could see over an inch.
With the front stalled overhead, winds will be nearly calm today. What little wind there is will vary in direction.
Temperatures are starting out in the low 60s but will only add a few degrees. Most areas will see afternoon highs in the upper 60s. Temperatures will drop back to around 60 degrees tonight.
Showers will taper off this evening with just isolated light rain, along with fog and drizzle, though the overnight and into early Tuesday. Some additional isolated showers may pop up Tuesday afternoon, mostly across the southern half of the region.
Tuesday will again have nearly calm winds and highs in the upper 60s.
Quieter Late Week
The front will slowly dissipate over our region during the middle of the week. There will be additional chances for rain Wednesday and Thursday, but it should be limited to some stray showers. Wednesday will have a better chance for showers than Thursday. Neither day will be washout.
With the decreasing chances for rain, temperatures will start to creep upward. Most areas should be near or just above 70 degrees on Wednesday. Thursday will jump up into the mid 70s.
It will remain muggy with dewpoints in the low and mid 60s throughout the week until Friday.
Friday looks like the best chance for sunshine this week. Temperatures will stick to the mid 70s but dewpoints will retreat to the upper 50s.
Saturday will also have some sunshine, though clouds will also increase some over Friday. Breezy southeast winds are possible.
Temperatures will drop a few degrees and top out around 70.
Rain showers will move back in for Sunday, though the details remain sketchy this far in advance.
It looks as though temperatures will continue to be mild, both during the day and at night, for the foreseeable future.
