Above Average Temperatures
High pressure will continue to supply warm temperatures and sunshine to the Finger Lakes today.
There are some morning low clouds and fog across the Southern Tier to start the day. This should burn off through the first half of the morning, leaving clear skies across the region.
It should remain mostly to completely clear through the afternoon with sun-filled blue skies. The sunshine will help the atmosphere heat efficiently, causing temperatures to at least match yesterday.
The Rochester area could push toward 80 degrees this afternoon, with upper 70s spreading along the I-90 Corridor. Mid 70s should be widespread through the remainder of the region.
Winds will be from the south today and could go over 10 mph for a time this morning. The wind will weaken slightly for the afternoon. Top gusts will be near or just over 25 mph late this morning.
Clouds will gradually move in this evening and a few pre-dawn showers cannot be ruled out. Most areas will stay dry tonight.
The threat for a few showers will continue into Wednesday morning before gradually tapering off in the afternoon. The rain that falls tomorrow should be very light and scattered.
Temperatures will not be quite as warm as today thanks to the increase in clouds, but low and mid 70s will still be widespread.
The warm weather will continue into Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as well. Thursday will see highs in the low 70s behind the system that will pass through tomorrow. Mid 70s are likely again for Friday and Saturday.
Thursday and especially Friday night will also be quite warm, with overnight lows in the low and mid 60s, respectively.
Pattern Changing Front
Thursday will be a quiet day as morning clouds give way to afternoon sun. Additional clouds will roll in on Friday with some scattered showers, especially late in the day. These showers will be associated with a warm front out ahead of strong weather system.
This system will bring a cold front through on Saturday. South winds will whip ahead of the front with gusts over 40 mph a possibility. A band of rain and some thunder will move through during the afternoon.
With all the wind in the atmosphere, it would not take much for any storms to enhance the winds. This is something I continue to monitor closely.
Temperatures will drop late Saturday and into Sunday behind the front. Widespread 40s are likely by Sunday morning, while highs Sunday afternoon only reach the mid 50s.
It will again be windy, mostly in the morning Sunday. Northwest winds will blow with gusts over 30 mph.
Some lake effect rain showers will be possible, mainly in the Syracuse area, but this remains uncertain at this point. A few more showers will be possible off Lake Ontario Monday morning before skies brighten for the afternoon.
After highs in the 50s again Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week may sneak into the 60s before cooler air is reinforced.
