Warming Up
High pressure is building into the Finger Lakes this morning from the Upper Great Lakes.
Skies have already cleared, and sunshine is abundant throughout the region. Much of the day will remain sunny, though some thin clouds will build in late in the day. The clouds will especially be prevalent in the southwestern half of the region.
With the center of the high pressure to our west, our winds will be from the northwest. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph this morning but will decrease through the afternoon.
The sunshine will offset the northwest winds, though, and temperatures today will be similar to yesterday. Most areas will be in the mid 50s, though a few higher elevations will be cooler, as will the shore of Lake Ontario. Areas near the Pennsylvania border will nudge into the upper 50s.
Skies will be partly cloudy into the night, but clouds will thicken towards dawn. Light winds will swing around to the southeast, but temperatures will still fall into the mid and even low 30s by Saturday morning.
Much of Saturday will be cloudy as a warm front moves through. There is still some uncertainty in how the rain associated with this front sets up. Most likely, the majority of the rain will be northeast of the Finger Lakes. However, some showers in our area are not out of the question.
Southeast winds will remain with speeds of 5-10 mph, allowing a little warmer air to move in. However, the clouds and any showers will help hold temperatures near or under 60 degrees.
Saturday night, as southeast winds turn more southerly, the clouds will begin to move out. Temperatures will only fall to the mid 40s.
Once the sun is up on Sunday, temperatures will rocket upwards as the warm front fully clears the region. Sunshine will be plentiful, though mixed with thin clouds at times. Winds will be variable, coming in lightly from the southwest until a lake breeze off Lake Ontario turns winds to the north across the northern third of the region.
Many areas will top out around 80 degrees, with even higher elevations getting into the mid and upper 70s. Once the lake breeze kicks in, temperatures will drop into the 60s across the northern halves of Monroe and Wayne counties.
Turning Chilly Again
Clouds will increase Sunday night with south winds taking over regionwide again. Nighttime temperatures will only drop into the mid and upper 50s for most areas. Low 50s will be possible in the far southeastern Finger Lakes.
Clouds will continue to thicken on Monday as a cold front approaches. Still, highs should easily make it into the low and mid 70s.
Rain associated with the front will arrive late in the day and persist into the nighttime hours. The front is expected to stall out nearby, causing rain to continue into Tuesday. Western areas may see the rain end, but eastern areas may see continuing rain through Tuesday as low pressure rides up along the front.
Some areas could see over an inch of rain Monday into Tuesday, though this remains uncertain and dependent on where the front stalls out.
With the clouds and rain, temperatures Tuesday will be in the mid 50s. Colder air will come in Tuesday night with temperatures falling to the mid 30s by Wednesday morning.
Blustery northwest winds will set up on Wednesday, holding daytime highs to the low 40s. Some rain and snow showers are likely, though it may not be a complete washout of a day.
The weather should dry out on Thursday, but it may remain quite cloudy. Temperatures will continue to be well below average, with morning lows in the low 30s and afternoon highs in the mid 40s.
As we head into next weekend, temperatures will slowly moderate back towards the 50s.
