Cooler and Less Humid

A cold front is moving through the Finger Lakes early this morning and will reset our temperatures before the next warm-up.

There are still a few final showers moving through the eastern Finger Lakes early this morning along the cold front. These will depart to the east before 8 AM as sunshine overtakes the area.

Once the sun is out this morning, it will remain a sunny day with just a few clouds here and there. No additional precipitation is expected.

A steady northwest wind will blow behind the front, reaching speeds of 10 mph throughout the region. The wind may even be a bit stronger along the shore of Lake Ontario and for areas west of Keuka and Canandaigua Lakes. Top gusts in those areas may nose over 30 mph with 25-30 mph gusts elsewhere.

Temperatures will rise to the low and mid 70s this afternoon. Dewpoints will be comfortably low in the 50s.

Tonight, any daytime clouds will dissipate and the winds will drop. Temperatures will fall to the low and mid 50s with a few upper 40s in the typically cooler areas of the western Southern Tier and possibly Cortland County.

Tuesday will be similar for temperatures and overall conditions, with a few differences. First, it will not be as windy with wind speeds sticking near 5 mph. Second, the clouds may be more plentiful during the later morning and early afternoon hours. A stray shower cannot be totally ruled out and will be most likely in the general vicinity of Syracuse.

Temperatures will top out in the low and mid 70s. Dewpoints will be even lower, mainly in the 40s. Skies will clear late in the afternoon and into the evening and winds will become calm.

Overnight, winds will pick back up from the southeast, helping overnight lows be a couple degrees warmer than Monday night. Still, most areas should be in the low or mid 50s.

Heating Back Up

The south winds will stick around for the latter half of the week as high pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast warms things up.

It will remain sunny and dry through the rest of the work week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Temperatures on Wednesday will warm into the upper 70s and low 80s. Most areas should end up a degree or two on either side of 80 degrees. Wednesday night temperatures will be in the upper 50s.

By Thursday, a few places may flirt with 90 degrees. Most areas will be in the upper 80s, though. Dewpoints will remain comfortable in the 50s.

The hottest day of the week will be Friday. As long as there are not too many pre-frontal clouds moving in, highs should be widespread into the 90s. If everything comes together right, quite a few places could end up in the mid 90s. However, the models have a tendency to overdo the heat this far out, so I nudged the forecast down to the low 90s in the 7-day graphic.

Even on Friday, dewpoints are expected to remain in the 50s, though this too is a bit uncertain this far out.

The next cold front will move in on Saturday. Rain showers are likely, though a few rumbles of thunder will probably be possible as well. At this early stage, severe weather does not look to be a threat.

The week will come full circle as Sunday closes out with sun and clouds and highs returning to the 70s once more.

Next week generally looks to be on the cooler side with highs remaining in the 70s most days. Dry weather is favored early in the week, but rain will be possible later in the week.
