A Few Snow Showers
A subtle cold front moved through the Finger Lakes last night as low pressure tracked into eastern Canada.
Meanwhile, high pressure will track from the Midwest into the Ohio River Valley today.
Temperatures are in the upper 20s and low 30s to start our Wednesday, and skies are mixed with some areas of clouds and some areas of clearing. Lake effect snow is limited to areas well north of our region off Lake Ontario, with no snow coming off Lake Erie.
This set up will hold true through the morning and into early afternoon hours. Winds will be out of the west but will slowly start to turn more to the northwest as the low and high pressure systems shift east. The wind speeds will also increase, going over 10 mph this afternoon with a few gusts around 30 mph.
This will send the Lake Ontario snows southward, with some daytime flurries across Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties. The rest of the region should remain in a mix of sun and clouds.
Temperatures this afternoon will top out mainly in the mid 30s with some low 30s in higher elevations. Evening temperatures will then drop back to the mid and upper 20s for most, with some low 30s along and north of I-90.
The lake snows will continue to press southward this evening, but should get no further than roughly a line from Rochester to Ithaca to Binghamton. North of this line, expect on and off snow showers into the overnight.
Most areas will see no more than a coating of snow, but locally up to two inches could fall from eastern Wayne County, through northern and central Cayuga County, and into southern Onondaga and northern Cortland counties.
The lake snows will weaken during the overnight and should mostly be dissipated and moved out of the area by sunrise as winds turn to the southwest. Only a stray lingering flurry early on is expected. Overnight lows will mostly be between 20-25 degrees.
Skies will quickly become sunny on Thursday and should remain as such throughout the day. Southwest winds will nudge temperatures upward, with highs ranging from the mid 30s in Cortland County, to the low 40s reach Rochester, through the Genesee Valley, and into the broad valleys of the Southern Tier.
Thursday night should remain mostly clear, though a few thin clouds may drift through from time to time. Lows will only make it into the low and mid 30s for most areas, with a few upper 20s in and around Cortland County.
It is almost too late…

Quiet Warm Weather
Friday will bring us our second straight sunny day, and third for the week overall. Few, if any, clouds are expected until some thin clouds very late in the day.
A southwesterly flow will persist, pushing temperatures up into the mid 40s for higher terrain, with upper 40s to near 50 degrees for most. A few areas in the Southern Tier may sneak above 50 degrees.
Clouds will be on the increase for Saturday, but some breaks of sun will still be possible from time to time. Winds will become nearly calm, and the flow of warm air from the southwest will be cut off.
Still, without any cool air to move in either, temperatures will still manage the mid and upper 40s on Saturday.
Sunday will be overcast as low pressure develops along the East Coast and begins to move northward. No rain or snow is expected during the daytime hours, though a few showers will be possible Sunday night.
Southeast winds will blow on Sunday, mainly giving a slight boost in temperature to the northern areas. Most places should be between 45-50 degrees.
Rain will be possible on Monday but is far from certain at this point. The coastal low may very well stay too far east for more than a few showers. The further east you are, the better the chances for rain on Monday.
The weather will remain very quiet next week as well, with almost nothing of substance to note on the models after Monday’s passing low. Temperatures should continue to be near or above average.
