Early Week Weather
High pressure is situated along the Mid-Atlantic coast this morning while a weak low and frontal boundary are moving through the Upper Great Lakes.
South and southwest winds will increase this morning as these two opposite pressure systems butt up against one another. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph with gusts to 25 mph.
An area of sunshine is showing on the satellite imagery early this morning, but new clouds and some showers are already entering western New York.
After a couple of hours of sun, these showers will arrive in the Finger Lakes during the mid to late morning hours. There is some question about how well the showers will hold together, but at least a few areas will see some rain.
Additional showers and a few thunderstorms will pop up this afternoon and continue until around sunset. The Southern Tier is the least likely area to see additional rain this afternoon.
Temperatures will be warmer than they were over the weekend with highs returning to the low 70s for most areas.
Rain will move north by the early evening, but skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight with just a few occasional breaks in the overcast.
Overnight lows will be in the mid 50s with a few warmer and cooler pockets.
Tuesday morning is expected to be dry and there may even be some more substantial breaks in the cloud cover.
With south winds persisting, temperatures will easily push into the low and mid 70s by the early afternoon.
That will be enough to trigger another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The northern half of the region looks especially susceptible to thunderstorm activity.
Waves of showers will continue Tuesday evening and into the overnight. Nighttime temperatures will stick to the mid 50s.
Mid and Late Week Weather
How Wednesday unfolds is still a bit uncertain.
The low pressure and frontal boundary of Monday and Tuesday will slowly be pulling away from the region. However, there will still likely be at least some showers to contend with.
The interplay of cloud cover, temperature, and frontal position will also play a key role in whether any additional activity pops up during the afternoon.
At this point, it is best to assume that there will be at least some rain in the area. Temperatures will likely be a touch cooler with highs in the upper 60s.
Our best shot for a dry day will be on Thursday, though there still may be a stray shower or two around, especially in the morning. At least some sunshine come afternoon is likely.
Temperatures will start Thursday in the low 50s and rise to a high in the low to mid 70s.
A few showers will dot the area on Friday, but it looks as though there will be plenty of dry time, too. Temperatures will be similar to Thursday.
The weekend is uncertain, but Saturday looks to have a higher chance for rain than Friday. Sunday, however, looks mostly dry at this early vantage point.
Temperatures will remain mild into the weekend with highs near 70 Saturday and into the mid 70s Sunday, pending the precipitation patterns.
Next week’s temperatures look to generally remain in the same vicinity, bouncing up and down with passing weather systems, about at 70 degrees as a center point. Overall, while there will be chances for rain, next week looks a bit less unsettled than this week.
