Late Week Weather

An area of low pressure will move over the region this morning into the afternoon.

Areas of rain will precede the low and will be on and off through the morning hours. The steadiest of the rain should push off to the northeast by the late morning and midday hours.

South winds will turn to the west this afternoon as the low heads northeast. Cooler air will build in behind the low.

Temperatures will peak in the mid and upper 40s early this afternoon before a slow but steady drop. By the late afternoon, some areas will be in the 30s with rain showers turning over the snow showers.

Snow showers will persist this evening, especially near Lake Ontario as some lake enhancement occurs. Locally an inch or two may accumulate, but most areas will see little to no accumulation.

Overnight lows will end up in the mid 20s. A few snow showers will linger through the overnight and into Friday morning, but these will be few and far between.

Northwest winds early Friday will turn to the south later in the day. Afternoon highs should make it into the low and mid 30s.

A few snow showers will be possible during the mid-afternoon with a heavier burst late in the afternoon or early in the evening. This burst could lead to a brief period of tricky travel with a quick half inch or so of accumulation.

Temperatures will then rise Friday evening as southerly winds strengthen to 15-20 mph. Wind gusts may be as high as 40 mph, especially over higher elevations. Overnight temperatures will be in the upper 30s with some rain showers.

Changing Temperatures

A cold front will move through early Saturday morning, causing temperatures to fall throughout the day. By the afternoon, most areas will only be in the mid 20s with scattered snow showers. Northwest winds will be strong with gusts to 40 mph.

Snow showers will consolidate into a band or two of lake effect snow Saturday night. It is still a bit too early to tell how organized or heavy this may be, but early indications are it may be on the lighter side.

Lake effect snow showers will likely stick around through Sunday, though at any given time, most of the area will be dry. Sunday will be starkly colder than the rest of this week has been with morning lows in the low 10s and highs around 20 degrees.

Monday will start similarly cold in the 10s, but highs will make it to near 30 degrees. Any lingering lake effect snow showers early in the day should quickly dissipate as light winds turn to the west and southwest.

Warm air will make another push for the middle of next week. After starting in the mid 20s, Tuesday will see highs in the mid 40s with a few rain showers.

Wednesday will start the day at least near 40 degrees and should crack 50 degrees at a minimum. A wet and windy weather system will be moving through, so its exact path and strength will determine our temperatures.

Temperatures will return to the 30s behind that system late next week and next weekend, possibly with some snow showers, but no major accumulations.

There are additional indications of more warm weather as we head into the middle of March.
