Temperatures will rise well into the 70s this weekend with plenty of sunshine. The only chance for rain will be a few scattered showers late Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. Even warmer weather is expected early next week with a taste of summer Monday and Tuesday. A cold front will move through mid-week.

Friday

What: Showers winding down.

Low pressure will depart the region today. A few morning showers are falling, mainly over the eastern Finger Lakes, while sunshine is abundant across Western New York. Sunshine will slowly spread eastward through the day. Winds will be from the northwest, but light, and afternoon highs should reach the low 60s for most, but with some warmer pockets in the west and cooler pockets in the east. A clear night is expected Friday night with lows in the mid 40s.

Saturday

What: A few late showers.

Sunny skies will dominate much of the day, but some clouds will increase late. A few scattered showers and possibly a rumble of thunder will pass through during the late afternoon and evening hours. Not all areas will see rain, and individual showers will be short-lived.

Southwest winds will pump warm air into the region with highs in the mid and even upper 70s. Saturday night will see temperatures in the upper 50s.

Sunday

What: Mostly sunny.

Sunday will live up to its namesake with lots and lots of sun. Some thin clouds will mix in at times, but with little impact on the available sunshine. Winds will be light from the northwest and north, but temperatures will only be a degree or two cooler than Saturday with mid 70s still widespread throughout the region. Areas north of the Thruway may be a bit cooler thanks to Lake Ontario. Nighttime temperatures will be in the mid 50s.

Monday

What: Sun and clouds.

Temperatures will go up another notch or two on Monday with highs pushing into the 80s. Many areas may approach or reach 85 degrees. Skies will be sunny with fair weather clouds developing. An isolated shower may pop up during the afternoon, but most areas will be dry. Steady south winds will blow but gusts should stay under 30 mph.

Tuesday

What: Scattered showers and storms.

Summery weather will persist into Tuesday with morning lows in the upper half of the 60s and highs somewhere in the 80s. Exactly how hot it gets may depend on how many showers and storms bubble up in the afternoon, which remains a source of uncertainty. It is worth mentioning that dewpoints will be climbing well into the 60s, so it will feel on the muggy side.

Wednesday

What: Scattered showers and storms.

A cold front will move through on Wednesday, but exactly when remains too uncertain this far out. A later frontal passage would set the stage for thunderstorms, while a morning passage would limit precipitation to some showers. How high temperatures get will also be determined by the front, but mid 70s are a conservative guess assuming a frontal passage sooner rather than later.

Thursday

What: Sunny, not as hot.

The early season heat will break by Thursday when highs return to the 60s with steady northwest winds. At this time, it looks like a sunny day.

Late Next Week

Temperatures will gradually warm again, possibly making a run at 70 degrees next weekend. Dry weather is favored next weekend before higher chances for rain early the following week. The chances for frost look low, but not quite zero, as next Friday morning has an outside chance at dropping low enough for some patchy frost in the colder pockets.
