Temperatures will be slightly above normal under partly cloudy skies Friday.
Beautiful September Weather
Our stretch of cool, crisp mornings and sunny, comfortable afternoons will continue for Friday.
Morning lows this morning were in the 40s across the region. A few area of patchy fog are quickly burning off as the sun climbs higher in the sky. Temperatures will rise through the 50s this morning.
By this afternoon, temperatures will continue to climb under blue sky and a few puffy fair weather clouds. High temperatures today will be warmest to the northwest, with highs near 80 degrees for places like Batavia, Geneseo, Rochester, Canadaigua, Newark and Sodus.
Most of the remainder of the region will be in the mid 70s, with some upper 70s to the north and low 70s in the higher elevations south and east of the Finger Lakes.
Skies will clear for a time this evening before clouds work in. Temperatures will not be as cold as in recent nights, with overnight lows generally somewhere near 60 degrees.
Rain Chances This Weekend
A storm system will move into the Finger Lakes for this weekend, bringing a few chances for some rain.
A couple of showers, and maybe a rumble of thunder, will be possible as early as Saturday morning. These should be scattered and will move through the area quickly as warmer air and higher levels of humidity move in.
Rain and thunderstorms will develop late in the day Saturday and into Saturday evening. Most places should see at least a little rain, and a few places will see some heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and a strong wind gust.
A few showers will persist through the overnight hours and into Sunday morning. Scattered showers will remain possible through Sunday, though it should not be a washout. The chances for thunder and lightning Sunday look minimal.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
Next week, at this point in time, is looking fairly similar to the week we just experienced.
High pressure will be in control of the region for a good chunk of time, resulting in sunny skies, mild afternoons and cool mornings.
Temperatures behind this weekend’s storm system will not cool much, with 70s likely Monday through Wednesday. Some 80s will start to show up on Thursday, and we could see some well above normal temperatures towards the end of next week.
The rain chances during the week like minimal, with just a small chance for a stray shower Monday or Tuesday. There may be a better chance for rain late in the week as humidity increases.
