Warm Surge
A warm front will move into the Finger Lakes today, bringing some much warmer air into the region.
Clouds ahead of the front were accompanied by some predawn showers. The precipitation is now mostly to the east and north, but the warmer air is still yet to arrive.
South and southwest winds will help push the warmer air into the area, and the front should mostly clear the region this afternoon.
The remaining question will be how much sun shines. At the very least, a deck of high atmosphere clouds is expected into the afternoon. This may let some sunshine through, but not in full force. Thicker clouds lower in the atmosphere this morning may stick around for a while, too.
Temperatures should at least reach the mid and upper 60s throughout the region, but numerous areas could end up near or just above 70 degrees.
A disturbance riding along the front will bring a chance for some nighttime showers and perhaps a thunderstorm, mainly north of I-90. Nighttime temperatures will remain in the 50s with the front to the north.
Wednesday should be a mix of sun and clouds with plenty of warm air to go around. Many areas will get into the mid 70s, and locally upper 70s will be possible.
This could set the stage for some late-day thunderstorms as another disturbance approaches. Conditions are marginally favorable for a couple of stronger storms, so that will be something to watch for.
Rainy, Cooler
Clouds will keep temperatures well into the 50s Wednesday night, but the front will start to settle back to the south on Thursday. Temperatures across the northern half of the region may stick in the 50s, but the southern half will warm into the 60s.
More rain will be possible on Thursday as waves of energy continue to traverse along the front. Rain will be possible throughout Thursday, but especially in the afternoon and evening.
Low pressure will strengthen over northern New England Thursday night into Friday. Scattered showers are likely throughout Friday, possibly mixing with a few snowflakes Friday night.
Winds will also be blustery on Friday, coming from the northwest with gusts over 30 mph.
Temperatures Friday should still reach the mid 50s during the midday hours before dropping into the 40s during the afternoon.
Conditions will dry out Saturday, though clouds will hang tough for a good portion of the day. Sunshine will start to break through late in the day. Temperatures will be cooler, with highs in the low 50s.
Warmer air will start to settle back in thereafter, with highs possibly returning to the 70s by Monday. Sunday is a bit uncertain, though, and could have some rain showers with temperatures anywhere in the upper 50s or 60s.
