Wednesday-Friday Weather
A small weather disturbance will pass by to our north today, possibly touching off a few isolated rain showers.
Radar and satellite this morning show the disturbance exiting Michigan and coming into southern Ontario with clouds and showers. Some patches of clouds out ahead of the disturbance are also moving through parts of the Finger Lakes.
Much of the shower activity associated with this feature will dissipate this morning and move north of the area. Clouds are more likely from time to time, but the sun will also shine between the cloudier periods.
For most of the region, it will be a rain-free day. A few isolated spots will see a brief, light shower. These will be most likely in the afternoon hours. While any area could see one of these showers, they seem most likely in the northern tier of the region, roughly near and north of the northern tips of the Finger Lakes themselves.
Southwest winds will blow through the morning, turning to the west as the disturbance passes through. Wind speeds will be in the typical 5-10 mph range. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
The threat for a stray shower will continue this evening before skies clear overnight. Lows will make it into the mid 50s.
Nearly calm winds will be in place tomorrow with a good deal of sunshine. What little wind there is will have a generally southerly direction.
Temperatures will be warmer on Thursday as heat starts to seep into the region. Low and mid 80s are likely for most areas, but the Rochester to Dansville stretch could see upper 80s. Typically cool Cortland County will top out around 80 degrees.
The southerly flow will increase Thursday night into Friday with wind speeds around 10 mph. Morning lows will start in the mid 60s, and afternoon highs will push into the low 90s. The models continue to hold dewpoints in the 40s and 50s on Friday, making for a dry heat with low relative humidity values.
Some Rain Chances
A cold front will move into the area Friday night and early Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible with this front, mainly overnight Friday night.
Since the front will be moving through during the nighttime hours, the resulting precipitation will probably not be as heavy or as widespread as it would be otherwise. Some areas will probably miss out on any meaningful precipitation, but others could see upwards of a half-inch or more of rain.
Most of the showers Saturday morning will quickly depart to the south and will be limited to early on across the Southern Tier.
With more sun now expected on Saturday, temperatures are getting bumped up in the forecast. Expect highs around or slightly above 80 degrees.
Sunday looks sunny and dry with steady temperatures. Highs should again be in the upper 70s and low 80s, though a few places may sneak into the mid 80s.
Another front should move through either late Monday or early Tuesday. This could bring some scattered thunderstorms to the area for the 4th of July Monday afternoon and evening. There is a large degree of uncertainty about the timing of this system, though.
Behind the front, temperatures should return to the 70s for a day or two. More unsettled weather is possible late next week and towards next weekend, but it is too far out to pinpoint when it will move in.
Temperatures should remain in the neighborhood of 80 degrees much of next week and possibly the week after as well. More variation will become evident as the precipitation forecast clears up, but no big cool downs or surges of heat are currently expected in the near future.
