Final Dreary Day

The area of low pressure that has been meandering around the Upper Great Lakes is now situated over Eastern New York.

Areas of rain and drizzle exist across the Finger Lakes this morning and will continue through at least the first part of the afternoon. The rain is likely to increase in coverage this morning before eventually pivoting to the west, out of the region.

Exactly when the rain leaves the area is questionable, but it should be sometime during the afternoon. Even once the steady rain departs, there will still be some scattered showers about into the evening hours.

Temperatures will have a tough go today with the clouds, rain, and northwest winds just over 5 mph. Most places will see highs in the mid 40s. As usual, there will be a smaller percentage of locations both warmer and cooler than that based on topography.

Precipitation will continue to become more sporadic during the overnight, though a few showers and some drizzle will likely persist into Thursday morning. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s for the most part, so precipitation should stay as rain.

Thursday will have some sun breaking through the overcast and just a few isolated showers. The majority of the time, it will be dry, and some areas will not see any additional rain on Thursday.

Winds will remain from the northwest with similar speeds. However, without the steady rainfall and with some breaks of sunshine, temperatures should be able to push into the low 50s.

Warmer, Dry Weekend

Partly cloudy skies Thursday night will allow temperatures to drop back into the mid 30s. A fair amount of sunshine should start the day Friday before clouds bubble up during the morning.

There is still a small chance for a stray shower on Friday, but these should be few and far between. The chances for rain are low enough that the majority of the region should not see any rain.

Light north winds will blow on Friday, but temperatures will still add a couple more degrees with highs in the mid 50s.

Friday night should also drop into the mid 30s and Saturday will start the cycle again. Morning sun will mix with increasing clouds, but this time, no rain is expected at all. Light north winds will persist but may be nearly calm at times.

High temperatures on Saturday will make a more substantial climb, with many places getting slightly above 60 degrees. Saturday night will likewise be a bit warmer with lows around 40 degrees.

Sunday will have sunshine mixing with some scattered clouds. There will probably be fewer clouds around than on Friday or Saturday, and no chances for rain.

Winds on Sunday will be from the northwest with speeds up to 10 mph, particularly east of Cayuga Lake during the afternoon. Highs will make it to the mid 60s.

Even more sunshine is expected on Monday, with mainly just a few thin clouds around. Temperatures will continue to rise, reaching the upper 60s after morning lows in the mid 40s.

Unsettled weather will move back in for the middle of next week with some chances for rain. Additional rain may be possible later in the week as well. Temperatures should remain near average with highs in the 60s most days, continuing into the following week.
