Weekend Weather Forecast

A windy and cool weather pattern will linger through the weekend, but an extended period of quiet, warmer weather awaits.

There will be a few small impulses of atmospheric energy that will pass through the region. One such disturbance passed through early Friday morning with a period of snow.

A few stray snow showers will be possible during the rest of the day Friday, but so too will areas of sun. Little to no additional accumulation is expected.

Winds will kick up again in the wake of this system, coming from the northwest with speeds of 20-25 mph and gusts as high as 45 mph. The wind will decrease quickly in the late afternoon and may go nearly calm for a time this evening.

Afternoon highs will range through the 30s, with some higher elevations sticking to the low 30s while some valley locations see upper 30s or even 40 degrees.

The next disturbance will pass through during the overnight hours today with most of the snow out of the area by sunrise. Like today, accumulations should be an inch or less.

Saturday’s temperatures will start in the mid 20s and peak in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Another round of gusty northwest winds are likely, though not quite as strong as Friday’s. Wind speeds will be near or slightly over 15 mph with gusts peaking around 35 mph. The strongest winds will be in the afternoon, with another substantial drop off during the overnight.

The pattern will repeat itself one more time with another disturbance late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, yet again with an inch or less of accumulated snow. Winds behind the system will gust between 30-35 mph on Sunday with a west-northwesterly direction.

Sunday will start in the low and mid 20s with a high reaching the upper 30s to near 40 degrees as sunshine increases later in the day.

Warm Next Week

A combination of warm temperatures and quiet, dry conditions will give our region a sustained taste of Spring next week.

Things will start off on Monday with a few morning clouds amidst otherwise mostly sunny skies. Morning lows will start near 30 and afternoon highs will be near 50.

Winds will be lighter from varying directions throughout the day.

Tuesday may be the warmest day of the week as temperatures jump through the 50s and, for many, into the low 60s. Skies will be sunny, though a few thin clouds will also likely be present.

Southwest winds will be steady if not a little blustery on Tuesday.

Clouds will increase on Wednesday, but these should mainly be thin clouds that still allow some sunlight to pass through.

Temperatures are less certain for the rest of the week as a frontal boundary may set up near the region. However, temperatures are still very likely to be at least in the 50s Wednesday and Thursday.

The variability is too high to be sure where things will end up on Friday. However, warm weather again becomes more likely by the weekend. There is a real chance that many areas may see seven straight days at or above 50 degrees.

There is a small chance for some scattered precipitation sometime around Thursday or Friday. A much better chance for precipitation will come toward next Sunday and the following Monday. The majority of models have this as rain, but of course it is far too early to speculate much.
